"I’ve had the pleasure of working with Greg for the past several years via the
COP International record label. His collage style artwork is beautifully layered & textured.

He possesses a unique ability to marry image with the music. It’s been fun to watch his style develop over the years.

Greg and I have discussed his deep & formative connection with the 4AD record label, especially during its heyday of the 80’s. He told me how the artwork and design of that label specifically, including many albums that I had produced, shaped his desire to ultimately become a graphic artist and to create record album covers.

It seems that everything has come full circle for both he and I."

"I've been making records for 40 years, and during that time, as you may expect, I have worked with some really amazing visual artists and graphic designers, whether they have designed record covers or posters or whatever else.

I became a fan of Greg's work after seeing what he had done for THE JOY THIEVES. His approach to the art is that of someone who is completely immersed in the project, instinctively pulling from the music and bringing an image to life...

His work is engaging, surreal and breathtaking.
I can't wait to work with him again!"

"Working with Greg brings the symbiosis which musicians are all looking for in terms of graphic design & artwork.

How does he do this? Presumably because he has something to say, something he needs to get out of his system. Surely this is the basis of all great art.

He just gets it. Highly Recommended."

"I met Greg many years ago when I was on tour in the US as sound engineer for Project Pitchfork. We talked a bit and connected through social media. Over the years, we chatted and the artwork that I saw from him was absolutely stunning. I realized that Greg was doing many album covers for different bands.

During the process of finishing an album for my ERMES | HARMS side-project, I asked Greg if he would contribute as a graphic artist because I found some of his really cool art that would totally fit to my music. He stood by his word and helped in every possible way to make the cover art absolutely unique and outstanding.

We were also very happy to use Greg for my own band GIRLS UNDER GLASS for the artwork for our latest release, "Backfdraft". I always recommend Greg to other bands and labels.

Brilliant art, very nice guy & always helpful...I love that!"

"We were aware of Greg’s brilliant works for many years already. In 2022 we finally got in touch to discuss our new project, a new Girls Under Glass album. Greg was totally into it and very inspired by the album title "Backdraft“. He came up with so many great ideas that it was really hard to choose and decide which way to go. After we decided for a certain idea, he suggested and delivered several extra images that we could use for the album.

This inspired us to create an Artbook featuring Greg’s brilliant art and combine it with our lyrics, liner notes and private photos. The result is a 72 page Artbook...our absolute masterpiece!
We are so thankful for this inspiring collaboration.

Besides his creativity, Greg is a great person to deal with & we would definitely love to work with him again in the future.
Why? Never change a winning team."

Real Life

"I love Greg’s work. I have a background in printing, graphic design and surrealist black and white photography, so the last thing we would be likely to talk about is music…and that’s a big plus for me.

Greg did a couple of covers for Real Life on the A Different Drum label. I had never seen other examples of his work portfolio until recently and I must say I’m very impressed with his style and vision!

A true artist. Oh and I forgot to mention he’s a real nice guy."

Cold Transmission Record Label

"As a record label you are always on the lookout for talented graphic designers who can support your artists in transforming their musical vision into a matching artwork.

We have had the pleasure of working with Greg for two of our label bands already...Mark E Moon and The Ending Nights. He did an amazing job on the artwork and logos for these projects. Not to forget that Greg also designed one of our very own CT label t-shirts and he managed perfectly to bring our idea behind the design to life!

We highly recommend Greg's work - he is super professional, fast, easy to work with and supportive!"

"When it comes to artwork, one person immediately comes to mind. There are a lot of good album covers in our scene and I was surprised to find that many of them came from Greg. He has an eye for the dark and surreal and his works are definitely eye-catchers.

We have known each other online for years and value each other. Maybe there will be a collaboration at some point...who knows.

I can recommend him without reservation and...he's a really nice guy!"

"I used to refer to Greg Rolfes as the “secret weapon” for all of my digital artwork needs. But let’s be honest…with skills like his, it was only a matter of time until the whole world finally figured it out!

In addition to his breathtaking artistic skills, Greg is wonderfully communicative, easy to work with, and highly skilled at discussing visual ideas with clients who may not excel in that area.
(You know…people like ME!).

That ability to bring a high level of expertise, but to still be able to communicate well is priceless to me...
and it’s precisely why I will continue to use his services in the future whenever possible!"

"Greg and I met online when I was still working on Diskonnekted. We've kept in touch and have watched each other's artistic journeys develop. For some reason, those paths have not crossed yet, but I can easily see that happening someday.

I've always admired Greg's work, which continually improves. His style often evokes elements of Dave McKean and Vaughan Oliver but always with a unique, contemporary flair."

"I cannot recommend Greg enough. I reached out to him at the recommendation of many folks and after I did my research on his work with other artists.

I was surprised how easy it was to talk to him about my ideas. Greg effortlessly guided the vision of my work across two albums and three singles, maintaining the exact thread and symbolism that ties the pieces together.

I can't think of anyone else I would rather use for my album work"

"Greg has been doing cover art and layout for me since nearly the beginning of my music career in 2003. He did incredible work throughout a 10 year period starting with my album “Balance” which captured the energy and playfulness of those times. He continued to make striking and emotional images for my album “Nemesis” and finally a huge collection of beautiful photos and images used for the “Phoenix” album.

Greg understands how to fuse sound and vision in his work. He possesses the ability to communicate with a likeness that mirrors the music perfectly. I highly suggest working with a Greg, as he understands a wide range of genres and disciplines. It’s a true strength to have that kind of versatility.

I would definitely work with him again in the future!"

"Greg is one of the most talented artists I've ever known. His work has a depth and life to it that few can achieve. It's not the kind of work you look at and say "that's pretty cool"..... it's the kind of work you stare at and it takes you somewhere.

It tells a story....and you want to be part of it."

He's a total pro and will work with you to get you the result you want."

Ashes Fallen
Deathline International

"Greg is a great guy, very knowledgeable, and we recommend him without reservation. Our gothic rock band Ashes Fallen were in a pinch. We’d created a cover image for our album “Walk Through Fire”, but we were struggling to get the color balance right, and something was missing. We have great ideas and there’s a lot we can do on our own, but we’re still learning to use the tools and mastering getting something to look right on screen as well as in print, and we needed professional help. The clock was ticking as we’d already committed to a release date for the album, coinciding with a festival we were performing at.

So we reached out to Greg for help. He graciously offered to help out, and he did things that are so important...and that not every graphic designer does: he listened to us, he understood what we were trying to achieve, and he kept his ego entirely out of the conversation. He helped us nail the color balance, and added some weathering and flames to the image that really helped tie it all together and deliver that knockout punch we needed to make our album cover really shine.
He also provided us with the digital assets he used so we could finalize the rest of the album artwork package. Thank you Greg!"

"As a music reviewer in the goth industrial scene, I get a chance to see a lot of album cover art...ranging from DIY to some of the top graphic designers in our genre.

As time passed, I began to recognize certain art styles on first impression...One of these artists was Greg Rolfes. Not because he followed a consistent or distinct pallet / theme. His body of work is extremely diverse! Instead due to his almost synesthetic ability to match a bands sound to a visual artifact.

It is a true gift which Greg has built a trusted name on."

Deathline International
COP International Records

"I’ve had the opportunity, as a member of Deathline International and as the Mastering Engineer for COP International, to be working alongside Greg Rolfes on many of the same projects released under the label. Greg has always managed to deliver artwork that is richly textural, uniquely reflective, and simply gorgeous.

Good cover and booklet designs for music differs from other forms of graphic design, in that the visual artist’s musical sensibilities must cross path with the musician’s visual ideas. Greg excels in this department: his designs often occupy the unique space between being integral to the music and being an extension to the world the music occupies.

Moreover, Greg is great at communicating directly with the artists, translating their musical ideas into beautiful, if not essential, visual accompaniment to their releases.

I look forward to working with Greg on many more projects in the future."

Sick Jokes

"On our most recent release entitled "Cult of Ignorance," Sick Jokes wanted to create cover art that would describe the thesis of the record at a glance. We were incredibly vague with our direction to Greg, and yet he instantly understood what we were going for, and started returning concepts that were hugely varied and creative.

It left us with a tough choice as to which of the amazing interpretations to go with. The direction we went with ended up exceeding our expectations hugely, with a painterly, Eugene Delcroix quality that really hits hard, with depth and clarity and detail that you can get lost in.

Above all, Greg was very patient with us as we waffled around trying to tweak the concept, he's a wonderful collaborator and a very chill person. I would not hesitate to recommend his work to anyone.

Thanks again, Greg!"

"The art that Greg creates is simply genius, and I am just in awe of his style and talent! He has used this genius to create some of the most interesting album artwork that I have ever seen.

Unbeknownst to me, the first time I met Greg, I was actually wearing a t-shirt with a design he made for Cold Transmission Music.

(Also, I appreciate Greg asking me to write this and giving me the opportunity to finally use the word 'unbeknownst')."

"I found Greg to be a fantastic artist who not only has the listening skills to 'decipher' what you want to have happen with your artwork, but also the ability to intuitively 'interpret and extrapolate' those thoughts and ideas into something special.

We often don't have a real understanding of what we want at all, and Greg possesses the ability to build on our foundations and create something special.

I enjoyed my experience with Greg as professional and as a person... Thanks for everything Greg"

"The first time I came across Greg’s artwork, it caught my eye immediately! It really gave me the feeling of a surrealistic, avant-garde atmospheric landscape of foreboding...yet ghostly images with a certain industrial feeling.

What I really like about his art is that the images have weight to them. His artwork and textures have a very tactile feel....it feels like you can reach out and touch it...like it's actually made of real substance.

Overall, I think Greg‘s images really fit well with music that has an atmospheric edge or a real alternative view. His artwork is very creative and substantial and its own view.

I would highly recommended Greg for any possible project that anyone might think of!"

"I met Greg over the internet in his early years as a graphical artist. He ended up doing 3 album designs and a few EP's for implant...as well as for a lot of other bands on the Alfa Matrix label.

The key thing for a good graphical design is translating the ideas of a band into an artwork that is strong enough to be a cover image. Greg was always very professional, always willing to walk the extra mile to make the graphics as close as possible to the initial idea. I’ve seen Greg’s material evolve over the years. His artwork gained a lot of maturity, and I have always been following his designs.

But there was more than artwork, somehow, we connected and ending up sending mails back and forth about our love for dark music in general. In 2022 I did a self-driving holiday in the United States. Denver was on the itinerary, so I sent Greg (who lived in Denver back than) an e-mail.
We spent an afternoon with margaritas, beer and lots of great talk about music."

ReGen Magazine

"It's such a challenge for any artist, especially in today's digitally charged and increasingly oversaturated era, to truly stand out with a singular, readily identifiable, and unique style...
Greg Rolfes has done that.

His work achieves a remarkable balance between the organic and the synthetic, the spiritual and the technological, capturing in visual terms the atmosphere and themes of the musicians he works with. It's a synergy that many strive for but rarely fully achieve.

Greg's imagery is never static - suggesting movement and fluidity that mirrors every beat, every note, every tone in the music.

There's a reason Greg is one of the few artists that ReGen Magazine makes it a point to mention whenever possible, because his work is not only that good...
but feels important to the overall presentation."

We gave Greg a pretty abstract concept to run with and, in the first round, we already had the genesis of the final design...which ended up being way beyond what we could’ve ever created ourselves. It’s iconic!

"I’m a solo artist out of East Texas. It’s been somewhat of a struggle looking for someone to really connect with in the visual art world.. After numerous fails of freelance attempts, I stumbled across another solo artist from Texas. I immediately reached out and asked who was doing this amazing artwork for him..
He said Greg Rolfes….. I went on a frantic search on the socials. Needless to say I was blown away by what I was seeing! Image after image, I just taken back by the depth, character, inspiration and thought within these.

My second album release was right around the corner and I reached out to one of the coolest and easiest humans I’ve ever worked with to start brain storming ideas. In no time, I had more ideas than I knew what to do with. It was very difficult to narrow down.

The finished product was, hands down, more than I could’ve asked for. And it’s an honor to have Greg's artwork on my album release. If you run across this page, stop searching and get in contact with Greg!
